Italy detained a Tunisian man Oct. 8 suspected of being the captain of a boat carrying African migrants that sank off the tiny island of Lampedusa, as divers recovered more bodies from the wreck, raising the death toll to 275.
Just 155 migrants, most from Eritrea, survived the Oct. 3 shipwreck. Some 500 would-be asylum-seekers were aboard when the ship capsized.
