Deal reached at U.N. climate talks in Peru

After late-night wrangling at U.N. talks in Peru’s capital of Lima, negotiators early Dec. 14 reached a compromise deal that sets the stage for a global climate pact in Paris next year.

The deal pushes countries to include quantifiable information showing how they intend to meet their emissions targets.

However, Alden Meyer of the Union of Concerned Scientists called the deal “watered down.”

Scientists say climate impacts are already happening and include rising sea levels and intensifying heat waves. (AP)
