The global climate summit in Paris forged a landmark agreement Dec. 12, setting the course for a historic transformation of the world’s fossil fuel-driven economy within decades in a bid to arrest global warming.
After years of bickering over how to move forward, the agreement finally sets a common vision and course of action. It sets an ambitious goal of restraining the rise in global temperature to "well below" 2 degrees Celsius, a mark scientists fear could be a dangerous tipping point. Until now, the line was only 2 C.
