South Korean President Park Geun-hye offered a surprise pub-lic apology Oct. 25 and admitted that she had close ties to a myste-rious woman at the center of a corruption scandal.
A day earlier, the South Korean TV network JTBC had reported that the woman, Choi Soon-sil, was informally involved in editing some of Park's key speeches.
For weeks, media have specu-lated that Choi used her connec-tions to Park to push companies to make tens of millions of dollars in contributions to establish two nonprofit foundations. (AP)
