Human error during a civil de-fense warning drill led to the false missile alert that stirred panic across Hawaii on Jan. 13, a state emergency management agency spokesman said Jan. 14.
Spokesman Richard Rapoza said the employee who mistakenly sent the missile alert "has been temporarily reassigned" to other duties. The false alarm was uncorrected for nearly 40 minutes.
During the drill, an employee using a software program chose the option that sent the missile alert publicly instead of internally, Rapoza said. (Reuters)
