Six youth players and the father of one of them were convicted of manslaughter June 17 for kicking a volunteer linesman to death after a game in the Netherlands, a brutal attack that has shocked this soccer-loving nation.
Judges in Lelystad sentenced the 50-year-old father, identified only as El-Hasan D., to six years in prison for the December attack. The youth players were given sentences ranging from one to two years in youth detention.
The judges said they gave the youths maximum sentences partly because they didn't accept responsibility for the attack. (AP)
