Israel's prime minister abruptly halted Nov. 12 a plan to explore the construction of thousands of new homes in West Bank settlements.

The statement said the plan created an "unnecessary confrontation" with the international community and threatened to weaken Netanyahu's campaign against Iran's suspect nuclear program. (AP)
