A powerful typhoon swept across Japan on Oct. 6, leaving four people dead and five missing after bringing heavy rain and strong winds to wide areas of the country.
Typhoon Phanfone headed to sea, weakening to an extratropical depression off the northern Pacific coast by the evening, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
Those killed included a 77-year-old man, whose body was found in a swollen river in Yamanashi Prefecture, and a 78-year-old man in Hitachiota, Ibaraki Prefecture. (Kyodo)
