Japan will urge China to take “effective measures” to stop Chinese fishermen poaching valuable coral in Japanese territorial waters and its exclusive economic zone near the Ogasawara and Izu islands off Tokyo, Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said Nov. 4.
Kishida said Japan first spotted Chinese ships near the Ogasawara chain around mid-September apparently poaching red coral, presumably for jewelry. (Kyodo)
