The main opposition Democratic Party of Japan jumped Dec. 8 on what may be seen as controversial remarks made by Finance Minister Taro Aso in election campaign speeches for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
Aso said Dec. 7 in Sapporo that, despite the image that the elderly are the main cause of growing social security costs, “the problem is (people) not having children.”
However, DPJ leader Banri Kaieda said, “Many women can’t have children because of financial reasons or the way they work.” (Kyodo)
麻生太郎財務相が12月7日、衆院選の応援演説で社会保障費の増大について「子どもを産まないのが問題だ」と発言したことについて、野党・民主党がこれを批判した。
