Bird flu strain found at Miyazaki poultry farm

The Miyazaki Prefectural Government said Dec. 16 that a genetic test confirmed a highly pathogenic H5 strain of avian influenza in three birds that on Dec. 15 tested positive at a chicken farm in the city of Nobeoka in Japan’s top poultry-producing prefecture.
On Dec. 16, the prefectural government started culling the roughly 4,000 chickens raised at the farm.
Miyazaki Prefecture has about 20 percent of the country’s chickens, according to data from the agriculture ministry. (Kyodo)
宮崎の養鶏場で鳥インフルエンザを確認
宮崎県は12月16日、延岡市の養鶏場の鶏から高病原性の鳥インフルエンザが検出されたと発表した。同日、その養鶏場で飼育されていた約4,000羽の鶏が殺処分された。
