A UNESCO advisory panel has recommended listing Japan's "Sites of the Meiji Industrial Revolution" as a World Heritage site, the Cultural Affairs Agency said May 4.
The endorsement covers all 23 facilities in eight prefectures proposed by the government as representing the country's industrialization in the late 19th to early 20th centuries, the agency said.
The move paves the way for a formal decision for listing of the historical sites at a meeting of the World Heritage Committee that is slated for June 28 in Bonn, Germany. (Kyodo)
