Four-time Olympic gold medalist Kosuke Kitajima, one of the greatest swimmers Japan has ever produced, officially announced his retirement April 10.
The 33-year-old had already expressed his intention to retire April 8, after failing to qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics at the national championships.
"I would like to express my deepest appreciation for those who have supported me," said Kitajima, who won gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. (The Japan Times)
