A new image believed to be of Japanese freelance journalist Jumpei Yasuda, who went missing in Syria last year, surfaced late May 29, depicting a bearded man holding a sign bearing the message "Please help."
The image was sent to multiple media outlets by a person claiming to be a mediator for a group holding the 42-year-old.
The sender claimed that Yasuda is being held by the Nusra Front, an al-Qaida-linked anti-government militant group in Syria, and that the photo was taken May 28 by the group. (Kyodo)
