Nao Kodaira stormed to gold in the women’s 500 meters in an Olympic record time of 36.94 seconds at Gangneung Oval, South Korea, on Feb. 18.
The silver went to South Korea’s Lee Sang-hwa and the bronze to the Czech Republic’s Karolina Erbanova.
After her victory, Kodaira joined with Lee to raise the Japanese and Korean flags together.
“Sports can make the world one ... It’s simple,” Kodaira, 31, told reporters. She said she told Lee that “I respect you still and a lot.” (Reuters)
