Japan becomes 12th country to join TPP talks

Japan made its belated debut July 23 as the 12th member of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations in Malaysia, four months after announcing its intent to join the talks.

Japan was allowed to join after the United States, the leading TPP economy, completed domestic procedures in the Malaysian resort of Kota Kinabalu.

With only three days left in the latest round of talks to create one of the world's largest free-trade areas, the Japanese negotiating team will seek to fully use the time to negotiate Japanese interests. (Kyodo)
