Honeymoon over for Ueno Zoo's giant pandas

Following a failed attempt to get the pair to breed, Ueno Zoo put its popular giant pandas back on display March 19 after keeping them out of the public eye for almost two weeks.

The zoo drew the curtain over female Shin Shin and male Ri Ri on March 6, after Shin Shin lost her appetite and began bleating like a sheep -- signs she was in heat.

However, despite being placed close to each other, Shin Shin turned up her nose at Ri Ri, a zoo staffer said. But there's still hope: Mating season doesn't finish until May. (The Japan Times)
