The Supreme Court ruled July 17 that the results of DNA tests are not enough to revoke the paternity of a child even if they disprove any biological relation to its assumed father.
The court said DNA tests can’t change the paternity status under the Civil Code, which stipulates that a child conceived by a wife during marriage is presumed to be the child of her husband.
“There is a need to make the child’s legal status stable” even if DNA tests say otherwise, the court’s First Petty Bench said in a statement. (Kyodo)
