Traditional Japanese handmade paper has been shortlisted by a UNESCO preliminary review panel for possible inclusion on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list, the Cultural Affairs Agency said Oct. 28.
The U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Intergovernmental Committee will decide in Paris in late November on whether to list traditional handmade paper from Saitama, Gifu and Shimane prefectures.
Making the list would likely help promote traditional Japanese crafts overseas. (Kyodo)
