To stop income inequality from growing, Japan should levy a heavier tax on big earners, French economist Thomas Piketty said in Tokyo on Jan. 29.

Speaking at a symposium on the widening income gap and Japan’s future, the author of the best-selling Capital in the Twenty-First Century said Japan is also too dependent on monetary easing rather than the more important task of raising wages. (The Japan Times)
