The opposition Ishin no To (Japan Innovation Party) decided April 4 to expel a Lower House lawmaker who skipped a vote on the state budget even though she dined out the night before the vote, a senior member of the party said.
Sayuri Uenishi, 31, said she went to a Tokyo hospital for vomiting and diarrhea March 12. The budget vote was the next day.
However, she felt better and dined out March 12 with another lawmaker, Uenishi said.
Party secretary-general Yorihisa Matsuno said Uenishi “disgraced our party.” (Kyodo)
