The director of the National Security Agency (NSA) insisted June 18 that the U.S. government's sweeping surveillance programs have foiled some 50 terrorist plots worldwide, in a forceful defense echoed by the leaders of the House Intelligence Committee.
Details on two thwarted attacks have already been disclosed, and Army Gen. Keith Alexander promised additional information to the panel on thwarted attacks that the programs helped stop.
He provided few additional details, but said the programs "assist the intelligence community to connect the dots." (AP)
