London brought in a new levy on the oldest and most polluting cars entering the city center from Oct. 23, almost doubling how much motorists have to pay in the latest blow to diesel.
Drivers are already charged pound11.50 (¥1,700) to enter the financial district and parts of west London under a congestion charge. Now, those driving petrol and diesel vehicles typically registered before 2006 will need to pay an additional pound10 (¥1,500).
Mayor Sadiq Khan said the air is "a killer," and hopes the levy will help save lives. (Reuters)
