It was a simple theft, but it cost the Dubai organizers of a diamond jewelry show in the French Riviera town of Cannes about $136 million (¥13.3 billion), the biggest such theft in years.
On July 28, a gunman, a scarf over his face, held up at least three guards at the luxury Carlton Intercontinental Hotel and fled a minute later, said Philippe Vique, an assistant prosecutor.
"He took a bag containing a briefcase and a small box, and then fled by (a) French door on the inside," Vique said. "He left on foot ... it was very fast." (AP)
