Conservative wins Poland presidential vote

In a sign of the rejection of the status quo and the rise of the right, Polish voters carried conservative Andrzej Duda to victory in the presidential election, ousting the incumbent in a runoff vote, official results showed May 24.

Duda, a 43-year-old lawyer with experience in the government, won 51.55 percent of the vote to President Bronislaw Komorowski's 48.45 percent.

The return of Duda's Law and Justice party to power cements Poland's turn to the right, and creates a new dynamic with other European countries. (AP)
