Father: (1) I have an announcement to make! You are not going to believe this!

Daughter: Yeah, you know what Dad? Sooo many times you've said that you have an "important announcement" to make, and (2) 99 percent of them weren't that important at all.

Father: OK but (3) I bet you're gonna be excited about this one.

Daughter: Sure, if you have a million bucks to bet...

Father: You bet I do! Remember that lottery ticket I bought last month? I hit the jackpot! How about that?!

Daughter: What?! You're kidding, right?

Father: No, really! I went back and checked the number over and over again to make sure I was right.

Daughter: Really?!

Father: Yep, cross my heart.

Daughter: Wow! That's great! Can I see it?

Father: Here you go... Now, (4) remember to put it back in that drawer after you've taken a good look at it.

Daughter: Oh, wow... A million bucks... What shall I get?

Father: Hey, what do you mean, "What shall I get?" Like this belongs to you alone. Everybody in the family gets to buy something for themselves and then the rest will be used for the house. To begin with, the living room could do with a makeover...

Daughter: But Daaaad, I need a new car!

Father: Hmmm. Well, (5) do you promise to study hard and to not spend too much time chatting on your cellphone?

Daughter: Sure, (6) if I have to. Anything for new wheels.

Father: Right then, well you better start hitting the books.

Daughter: Yes.
