Japan on alert as MERS spreads in S. Korea

Japan boosted the monitoring of travelers from South Korea at nationwide quarantine stations June 4 to keep at bay the Middle East respiratory syndrome, asking travelers who have a high fever to take tests for the coronavirus.

Japanese authorities have become vigilant against the potentially deadly virus, which has so far led to seven deaths and infected dozens in South Korea.

Some Japanese companies have put off business trips to affected areas in South Korea, while orders for antibacterial products are on the rise. (Kyodo)
