Saying they felt a "deep sense of ethical responsibility for a past tragedy," executives from Mitsubishi Materials Corp. gave an unprecedented apology July 19 to a 94-year-old U.S. prisoner of war for using American POWs for forced labor during World War II.
Hikaru Kimura, a senior executive officer of the company, offered a "most remorseful apology" at a ceremony in Los Angeles to James Murphy, who toiled in Mitsubishi copper mines during the war. Murphy accepted the apology, calling it sincere, humble and revealing. (AP)
