Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov agreed Sept. 21 to resume high-level talks in October between their diplomats to make progress over a longstanding territorial dispute.
Kishida and Lavrov struck a deal during talks at the Russian Foreign Ministry for their nations to restart sub-Cabinet-level talks in Moscow on Oct. 8.
The deputy ministerial talks solely focused on the isles dispute have been suspended since January last year due to tensions over the Ukraine crisis. (Kyodo)
