Princess Mako officially says she will marry

Princess Mako, the eldest grandchild of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, will marry a former university classmate, the Imperial Household Agency announced in a much-anticipated news conference Sept. 3.

The princess and her fiance, Kei Komuro, both 25, spoke of their relationship in romantic terms.

"I was first attracted to his bright smiles that seemed like the sun," Princess Mako told reporters in Tokyo. Komuro said Princess Mako "has been quietly watching over me like the moon." (The Japan Times)
