The 2020 Tokyo Olympics organizing committee on Sept. 1 scrapped the games' official logo in the face of criticism that it plagiarized an existing logo.
However, the committee said it didn't think designer Kenjiro Sano is guilty of any wrongdoing. Sano requested the logo's withdrawal, and will not get paid for the design, the committee said. A competition was to be immediately launched to find a new logo.
In August, the games logo was found to resemble a Belgian theater's logo, whose designer alleged plagiarism. (The Japan Times)
