President Xi Jinping cemented his hold on China's Communist Party as he received a renewed mandate Oct. 25 at the Central Committee following the party's twice-a-decade national congress in Beijing.
The party also elevated five officials to assist Xi, but stopped short of designating an obvious successor. The move strengthened Xi's position as the country's most powerful leader in decades.
"We will mobilize the whole party and the whole country in a resolute push to deliver on our pledge and eradicate poverty in China," Xi told reporters. (AP)
