Pope Francis gave his support for Myanmar's civilian leader while also insisting that the country's future depends on respecting the rights of each ethnic group, in a speech in the capital Naypyidaw on Nov. 28.
The pope expressed support for Aung San Suu Kyi's efforts to bring about reconciliation among different groups.
However, he did not mention by name the Rohingya Muslims who have faced decades of discrimination and now a military crackdown that has driven many to flee to neighboring Bangladesh. (AP)
