The unprecedented use of U.S. Marine Corps Osprey aircraft for disaster relief operations in Kumamoto Prefecture drew a mixed response April 18 from people in the quake-hit region amid concerns over the safety of the tilt-rotor aircraft.
"I feel Ospreys are accident-prone. If an earthquake and accident happen at the same time, it will be far from helping," said 73-year-old Susumu Hirose, who lives in the city of Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture, which was rocked by powerful earthquakes beginning April 14. (Kyodo)
