Koji Murofushi, the 2004 Olympic hammer throw champion, hinted at his retirement June 24 after a poor showing at the National Athletics Championships ended his hopes of competing at the upcoming Rio Olympics.
The 41-year-old veteran's 12th- place result in Nagoya failed to qualify him for Rio de Janeiro.
Hinting at retirement, Murofushi said: "I'd like to wish my best for the fellow (younger) throwers from now on."
Ryota Kashiwamura, 24, won the national title with a throw of 70.81 meters. (Kyodo)
