In the first Ukrainian military action against a pro-Russian up-rising in the east, special forces April 15 recaptured a small airport that had been occupied by militiamen, the government said.
Interim President Oleksandr Turchinov had earlier announced an "anti-terrorist operation" against the insurgents who seized control of numerous buildings in the east of the country.
Heavy gunfire rang out at the airport near the town of Krama-torsk, just south of the city of Slovyansk, 160 km from the Russian border. (AP)
