Niagara Falls has not frozen over; it just looks that way, thanks to a blast of arctic wind and cold that blew around and froze the mist on surfaces and landscaping.
The Buffalo News reported Jan. 9 that a section of the American Falls, one of three waterfalls that make up the natural attraction, was frozen. The larger Horseshoe Falls continued to flow unimpeded.
It was all surrounded by a white blanket of snow and ice, which coated everything from guardrails to trees. (AP)
