A Swiss solar-powered plane took off from Abu Dhabi early March 9, marking the start of the first attempt to fly around the world without fossil fuel.
Solar Impulse founder Andre Borschberg was at the controls of the single-seater when it took off from Al Bateen Executive Airport.
The aim of the journey, which will take several months for Borschberg and co-founder Bertrand Piccard, is to create awareness about replacing "old polluting technologies with clean and efficient technologies," the pilots said in a statement. (AP)
