Shinko, Mizuho set to merge in 2008

Shinko Securities Co. and unlisted Mizuho Securities Co. said Jan. 10 they have reached a basic agreement to merge in January 2008. The deal will create Japan's fourth-largest brokerage by assets under management. In terms of revenue, the merged brokerage will become Japan's third largest. The agreement marks the latest example of consolidation that is becoming more common in the Japanese corporate sector as companies try to survive increased global competition. (AP)
みずほ、新光証券が合併へ
新光証券とみずほ証券は10日、2008年1月に合併することで合意したと発表した。
