Asashoryu suspended from tournaments

The Japan Sumo Association suspended Mongolian yokozuna Asashoryu on Aug. 1 from the next two grand sumo tournaments in September and November. This was for playing in a charity soccer event in his home country after sitting out summer training citing injuries.

The 26-year-old will also be fined with a 30 percent cut in pay for four months. His stable elder Takasago will be fined, too. (Kyodo)
