A 17-year-old high school student in Kobe was arrested Sept. 17 for trying to extort money from a classmate who committed suicide. The suspect and other students made the victim promise to pay each of them Y10,000 "whenever he told a lie" and sent threatening e-mails demanding money. The principal has apologized. He said school officials had thought it was just a game. (Kyodo)
