Students good at facts but not application

In national testing, students in the sixth grade of elementary school and the third year of junior high school generally earned high marks in basic knowledge, but didn't do so well in applied skills in mathematics and the Japanese language, the education ministry said Oct. 24. Most students got 73-percent to 82-percent correct answers in basic knowledge questions. However, scores for applied skills were about 10 percentage points lower. (Kyodo)
全国学力調査、「知識」は高得点も「応用」に課題
小学6年生と中学3年生を対象にした全国学力調査の結果を文部科学省が10月24日発表し、知識を問う問題は高得点だった一方、応用力を問う問題はそれよりも低い得点だったことが明らかになった。
