Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura said Dec. 18 he believes in the existence of UFOs. "How else do you explain those various unexplainable things like Nazca?" he said. Earlier in the day, the government had made an official statement that it "has not confirmed the existence of unidentified flying objects from outer space." (The Japan Times)
