Rupert Murdoch buys Wall Street Journal
|
|
Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch won his battle for Dow Jones Co. and The Wall Street Journal, sources said Aug. 1, in a $5.6 billion (¥663 billion) deal. The Bancroft family, which has controlled Dow Jones for a century, initially rejected Murdoch's offer. They feared damage to the newspaper's integrity because Murdoch is known for meddling in editorial affairs. Three months later they changed their minds. (AP)
