Ex-South Korean leader OK'd abduction

Former South Korean President Park Chung Hee approved a 1973 secret operation to kidnap dissident leader Kim Dae Jung from a hotel in Tokyo, government sources said Oct. 24.
Kim was a serious rival to military-backed Park, who had ruled South Korea for 18 years with an iron fist. Kim later became the first opposition-backed president and a Nobel peace laureate.
This is the first time South Korea has acknowledged Park's involvement in the kidnapping. (AP)
