Chavez loses constitutional vote
|
|
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez narrowly lost a vote on constitutional reforms Dec. 2. The results of the vote were 51 percent to 49 percent.
If he had won the vote, Chavez would have been allowed to stand indefinitely for re-election. At the moment, he must step down in 2012.
But the reforms also included shortening the workday from eight hours to six hours and creating a social security fund for millions of informal laborers.
This is the first time Chavez has lost an electoral vote. (AP)
