Putin chooses his successor

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his support of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev as the new president Dec. 10.
Medvedev is known for his loyalty to Putin, and Putin says Medvedev will keep Russia on the same course as the last eight years.
Under law, Putin cannot be president for a third term, but Medvedev and others in Putin's United Russia party have asked Putin to be prime minister.
The presidential elections will be held March 2. (AP)
