Man kills bookstore clerk on impulse

A 33-year-old man was arrested July 22 for killing a worker at a bookstore in Hachioji, Tokyo.

Shoichi Kanno said he stabbed Mana Saiki, 22, with a kitchen knife on a sudden impulse to kill after experiencing trouble with his family over his job.

But his parents said that they were not aware of any problems, and that they rarely saw him.

Kanno bought the knife with its 15-centimeter blade at a nearby supermarket before entering the bookstore, which was in the Keio Hachioji Station building.

After stabbing Saiki, Kanno slashed a 21-year-old female customer who was standing near Saiki. (Kyodo News)
