Police in Osaka, Fukuoka and Kumamoto prefectures searched the offices of Mikasa Foods on Sept. 24 in connection with the tainted rice scandal.
The government said Sept. 22 that 390 companies across Japan had bought tainted rice from Mikasa Foods, which sold inedible rice as edible rice.
The tainted rice has so far been found to have been used in products such as shochu beverages and rice crackers.
Many of the companies reportedly had no knowledge about the origin of the rice, and they have criticized the government for releasing their names. (Kyodo News)
