Officer in naval crash attempts suicide
An officer of the Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer Atago, who was on watch when it hit a fishing boat in February, tried to kill himself March 24. The man slashed his wrists after being questioned by the Japan Coast Guard. Meanwhile, Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba fired Admiral Eiji Yoshikawa and punished 88 officials March 21 for the accident and other scandals. (Kyodo News)
